Kid’s Paddle Field Days

Black Hall Marina Kid’s Paddle Field Days are a full day of summer fun in Old Lyme, CT. Kids play yard games, race down a slip and slide, and paddle the calm, pristine Great Island Estuary.

Land Games and Paddling Adventures

Every Paddle Field Day brings two kinds of fun: games on land and adventures on the water. We split the group of 20 kids in half with one group of 10 taking over the yard while the other 10 head out to paddle.

Halfway through the day, everyone comes together for lunch and then the two groups switch, so the paddlers head to the yard and the land crew grabs their paddles. By the end of the day, every kid has played hard on land and explored the water.

Your Kids Are in Good Hands

At our Paddle Field Days, your kids are cared for by our trained crew all day long. Our certified lifeguard is on the water with every paddling group while other crew members run the land games and keep the yard safe and fun. We fence off the play area, so the kids have plenty of room to run around safely.

We cap each Paddle Field Day at 20 kids, so the groups stay small meaning more attention for every child. When paddling, we stay on the calm Great Island Estuary, away from busy boat traffic. No experience is needed, so first-timers fit right in.

Frequently Asked Questions

My child is signed up for Paddle Camp. Can they join Field Days?

Yes! Campers are already included. If your child is enrolled in our Weekly Kid's Paddle Camp, they will take part in the Wednesday Field Day during their camp week. There is nothing extra to book.

Does my child need paddling experience?

Not at all! Field Days are great for first-timers. Our crew will teach your child everything they need to know on calm, easy water. Just let us know it is their first time, and we will help them feel right at home.

What is included in the price?

Quite a lot! The price covers a kid-friendly lunch with juice and water, plus all the paddling gear and a life jacket (PFD).

Who watches the kids on the water?

Safety always comes first. A certified lifeguard is on the water with the kids at all times. Trained crew members are there to help, and every child wears a life jacket (PFD). You can relax knowing your kids are well cared for.

Can my child do both the land games and the paddling?

Yes! Every child gets to do it all. We split the kids into two groups, one on land and one on the water. Halfway through the day, the groups switch, so your child enjoys the yard games and the paddling. No one misses out on the fun.

What should my child bring?

Just a few simple things. Please send your child in a swimsuit, with a towel, sunscreen, a hat, and water shoes. A change of clothes is a good idea too, since they will get wet. We will take care of the rest.

What happens if the weather is bad?

It depends on the weather. If it is only light rain, the kids can still head out to paddle. We will never put them on the water during thunder or lightning. Instead, they will have a blast in the boathouse. Our counselors lead games, arts and crafts, and other indoor fun.
